Since 1999, the College of Arts and Sciences at UNC Charlotte has approved a series of policies, guidelines, and principles of employment for long-term, full-time, non tenure-track faculty known as Lecturers. In 1999, term limits and the title of “Senior Lecturer” were abolished; in 2000 (revised 2001), guidelines for planning, recruitment, professional development, review and evaluation were established; in 2004, a workload and contract policy was created; and, in 2003, the UNC system distributed recommendations for principles of employment, to which this task force in part responds.
