Larry Mellichamp, who has served ably as the Director of the Gardens for many years, has announced that he will be stepping down from that position in December 2014. Larry has long fulfilled multiple leadership roles in directing the Gardens: Master Gardener, university faculty member, Director of Development, Director of Community Outreach, etc. He has been reporting directly to the Dean of the College since 2005, although the Gardens, up until that time, had been structurally housed within the Department of Biology. With the expanded research mission of the university, in addition to the designation of the university by the Carnegie Foundation for Teaching as an engaged campus, it is only timely that we reexamine the role of the Gardens in the University prior to searching for a new Director.
