The University’s policies for EHRA employees (Exempt from the State Human Resources Act) includes a provision requiring the performance of employees be reviewed regularly (and at least annually) to guide and support staff development and provide the basis for personnel decisions (including compensation decisions, …
reappointment, promotion, etc.). Aside from the policy requirement, it is good business practice to let employees know how well they are, or may not be, meeting expectations. In addition, employees can share with their supervisors particular accomplishments they have made and challenges they have faced. Things that may often be overlooked when there is never enough time in the day to get everything done.
Cabinet members can determine what process or evaluation instrument they prefer, but the review needs to be in writing and may be maintained in the division or departmental office. It is also requested that performance appraisals be sent to Sarah Ekis in the Human Resources Office for placement in the employee’s personnel file. This will also ensure the performance appraisals are available for review by our SACS accreditation team and provide a record for future supervisors.
I’ve attached a copy of EHRA Non-Faculty Performance Review you may use or you may click on the link above and download the form from the Human Resources Forms Website.
As the SHRA process is coming to an end, this is a good time to begin the EHRA review process. Reviews should be completed by Friday, June 30, 2017 and be received in the Human Resources Office no later than Monday, July 31, 2017. You can scan copies of the review to Sarah Ekis at sekis@uncc.edu or send a hard copy through campus mail.
In the event the University is able to award merit increases in fiscal year 2018, a completed review will need to have been received by the Human Resources Office prior to such increases being considered.
Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. I am available to discuss how to address performance concerns that you, or supervisors in your area, need to discuss with employees.

Sarah Ekis, PHR | EHRA Non-Faculty Human Resources Consultant
