International Women’s Day, recognized by the United Nations on March 8, is celebrated in various countries around the world. International Women’s Day, as acknowledged by the United Nations, is a time to reflect on progress made and a call for change. Most importantly, International Women’s Day (IWD) is a celebration of acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. The UNC Charlotte campus community has celebrated IWD since 2006. This annual event includes historical information and recognition of faculty, staff, and students who have been nominated for their impact on the lives of women locally and globally. Nominations will open Friday, February 9, and will be accepted until Thursday, March 8. The event is co-sponsored by the Office of International Programs, the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, and the Multicultural Resource Center. The event is open to the campus community.
