Hollywood Writer, Producer Serves as Africana Studies Artist-in-Residence
Hollywood writer and producer Calvin Brown Jr. is serving as the 2017 Africana Studies Artist-in-Residence from March 13-March 23, 2017. Brown, a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduate and native Charlottean, Brown will guest lecture in classes, meet with students in a brown bag question-and-answer session, and work with select students to produce a short film on the history of the Africana Studies Department with students taking on roles as writers, researchers, producers, editors, and videographers.
College Dean Named Trustee of North Carolina Humanities Council
Nancy Gutierrez, dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at UNC Charlotte, has been named a trustee of the North Carolina Humanities Council for a three-year term.
“Liberal learning provides the building blocks for a life characterized by passion and purpose,” Gutierrez said. “The North Carolina Humanities Council’s encouragement of diversity, innovation and education in the humanities is aligned with our goal of educating critical and imaginative thinkers through inquiry and engagement. Both institutions also support multicultural awareness and responsiveness to a world increasingly characterized by diversity and change.”

Position proposals can be submitted through the UPIP/Career Center’s online request form.
As the current UPIP director, Carrie Silver, has accepted a position elsewhere, UPIP inquiries and concerns for now would go to the Director of the University Career Center, Dr. Patrick Madsen.
