While the CLAS task force was starting its review of college GA policies, the UNC Charlotte Graduate School dean also launched a task force designed to help program directors with their duties. Given the importance of GAs in graduate education, that task force was also focusing significant attention on the funding and management of graduate assistants as a task of the program directors across the university. The Graduate School task force planned to undertake a university-wide survey of program directors. The CLAS task force had hoped that the data and findings from that survey would be available in time to help inform these results and place them in the larger university context. Since that survey was delayed to the fall term, 2011, the task force delayed the CLAS report in order to integrate findings from the university-wide survey effort with the hope that the Graduate School task force survey will provide useful additional information for CLAS to continue improving its GA policies.
